the wisdom from the Bible and the word of God and today just to make a note the
resource for today uh because Jesse loves to give the resources so that you

be exciting so while you get your notebooks and get your get your snacks
or get some something to drink so that you can list listen enjoy and learn we want to remind you to head over to the

on over there to make sure that you get your tickets and especially for those who need to purchase this
um the first set of courses so that if you’re coming to part two you understand what is going on because it does build
foundationally um so any other announcements that you can think of just that’s it yeah
good deal um well this is pretty exciting part five of this 40 day fast and today it is
um restoration of obedience so excited for that how can how can we
how can we get it how can we be yielded all of that yes I mean it’s so important and so as
we’ve been going through this 40 day fast you know the Lord keeps showing that we’re kind of going through this
cycle of of tearing down things that should not be in our lives and building up the things that should
and so obedience is is finally important to some of the other things that we’ve
already started putting into place uh such as the delighting in the Lord and um
the honoring in the relationship obedience really is kind of that Firm
Foundation that’s going to keep uh those two things going
um without that obedience with you know the delight and the honoring are not
going to continue and obedience also kind of takes us to that deeper place with the Lord because
as we spend more time with him as we Delight in him and honor that
relationship he’s going to be speaking to us he’s going to be you know bearing his heart to us
and in that he desires a response from us
and is that response going to be doing what we desire
or is it going to be obeying even if that obedience is a little bit more
difficult so today our resources scripture as we said
and we’re going to be in Nehemiah chapter 1. now I love this passage and this really
when you look in depth at this chapter this really is about uh nehemiah’s
petition for the rebuilding of the Temple and as we continue this 40 day fast you
know we’re not just looking at what are the you know what is the sexual Purity
in our lives before the Lord this is really about the fact that we were purchased by the precious blood of Jesus
to be a kingdom of priests and as that Kingdom of priests you know
what does it say in Zechariah 3 the Lord says if you will walk in my ways then
you shall govern my house and you shall govern my courts you shall have charge
of my house in charge of my courts so this is about you know our Authority
our position in the kingdom of God not once we get to heaven but here now on
Earth that’s right right here right now and so you know we want to learn to be
very faithful stewards of this and what’s interesting is we start off
this passage as we see that Nehemiah got a report about the people’s
condition now this was not a good report and Tracy
do you have your scriptures open to Nehemiah chapter one all right would
you mind reading um I think it’s one of those first verses where it says nehemiah’s asked
for a report and it says starts with the remnant there
laughs um is that I think I think it’s verse
verse three in a different translation they said to me those who survived the
Exile and Are Back In The Province are in great trouble and disgrace
the wall of Jerusalem is broken down and its Gates have been burned with fire
when I say oh I’m sorry do you want me to keep going or no we’ll just we’ll
just do that for now okay very good so there’s four things that he notes
um that came in that report one the people were greatly distressed
um what was the word that your passage used in great trouble in great trouble yeah
they were disgraced or reproached meaning that you know
that there’s kind of a concept of being rejected um you know some humiliation going on
and reproach also can mean attack that you know they’re getting attacked and
mocked because of um their situation of distress
and yet what else do we learn that you know not only are the people in distress
but the wall That’s meant to protect them is is broken down
um and isn’t you know able to provide the protection that they need and the
gates were burned so there isn’t a way for them to close those City Gates lock them and protect themselves from those
who are attacking them so really they have no protection
they’re under assault from outside sources and there’s not much that they
can do about that and so you know it’s interesting in
Isaiah 9 verses 11 through 12 the Lord makes a promise to Israel
and he promises them a wall of protection while they’re rebuilding
so in verse 4 going back to Nehemiah 1 when Nehemiah hears this he sat down he
wept he mourned for days he fasted and he prayed before the god of Heaven
so as we’re looking at this you know I love that this chapter just so easily
breaks down some of the next things that we need to do in this fast
um as we’re continuing to do this fast you know we started with
um you know really learning to identify what are the sexual sins in our lives
um or the or the sins that the Lord wanted to deal with I know there were
some that you know as we looked at the word of unfaithfulness that maybe it didn’t deal with their sexual sin but
you know we talked about how spending all your time your energy your effort at work
instead of making time for the Lord that is the same thing you’re you’re being unfaithful with something outside of the
Lord so we looked at those different things that you know in those areas
um were there any areas of prostitution any areas of sexual immorality
fornification or sorry fornication or perverseness
um were there any areas of unfaithfulness adultery or pornography
so this week what we’re going to focus on in prayer is we’re going to look at five different
areas um I’m sorry actually Four first you know we’re going to assess
what are the distresses in our home you know who are the other people in our
home if you’re by yourself though that’s nice you just have one person to assess
or you could even if the Lord is telling you to do this for your community
because we want to do both our home and our community go ahead and start assessing asking the Lord to show you
the people around you what are the distresses
um you know so we look at that um you can go back to those alter things
uh with the sexual sins and say okay Lord are any of these connected to the
distresses going on in my home um you know one of the biggest easiest
ones is to look at what’s being watched on the TV
there was a season in time where you know my family we we even had um
others from our church um you know who were very engaged with
anime and it can be innocent it can be fun you know to watch and uh you know thoroughly
enjoyable but then there’s some where you know really they’re not appropriate
and you know I began to notice that some of those some of the anime even if there
wasn’t anything per se bad in them um that there were just some that seemed
to leave our home in a a place of disarray after where you know my children would be fighting each other
more uh they would seem to be a little bit more aggressive the spirit of
offense um you know was prominent in the home after those shows and um
so I begin to just you know whenever I would see that outbreak of fighting or
division or strife I would say Okay Lord show me show me you know what were we
just doing before this that all of a sudden now this is breaking out in the
home and if your kids you know were by themselves or separate or even your
spouse um ask them if they come out and they’re mad and they’re wanting to fight and
they’re kind of aggressive what were you just doing before this you know were you watching anything were you
listening to any certain type of music start to take note of those things
um you know there may be spiritual attachments to it so that’s what we’re looking for
our you know Behavior Trigger or behaviors being triggered
and then trying to figure out what had the spiritual attachment before that
that’s kind of set everything off in the home okay the second thing is you know what are
the reproaches the disgraces um you know this a lot of times in our
relationships we tend to bring up the things of our past like we
just can’t let go of all of those past sins you know
we we forgive ourselves we accept God’s forgiveness but then as we’re building
relationships or um you know talking to people those things tend to come back up you know
sometimes it’s very innocent it’s even just in a memory where you’re like oh my gosh remember when this or you know it
could be a song that comes on where you say something that really is a cut
or mean or criticism towards somebody else or maybe once
again they’re you know acting in a way that that reminds you of a way they’ve
acted in the past and you just are very blunt about well there you go again
you know there it is again um you know so you want to start looking
for those reproaches those disgraces you know what was Israel’s report reproach
was that because of their unfaithfulness to God because of their idolatry and
their serving um you know idols and sacrificing it Alters
the Lord allowed Babylon to overtake them and they went into
captivity so you know we’re looking for what are
those reproaches we know in Joshua 3 I you know I love that chapter and it it
leads into you know as Israel was brought to that place of of the new
land and the Lord’s Crossing them over um you know as you get to chapter six in
Joshua the first place that they come to is a city called gilgal and there the
Lord gives the command that all the men are to circumcise themselves and guess
what gilgal means I don’t remember
it means to roll the reproach away that’s right that’s right so you know it
doesn’t hurt us to to make a list to name the things that are being brought
up by the Lord you know Lord what are the reproaches in my home
what are the things that you need to roll away um from us
and you know again go back to that initial list that we’ve been working
through is there anything that the Lord considers prostitution or immorality
fornication or perversion unfaithfulness adultery or pornography
um don’t get stuck in the loop if you find something or or if you’ve Fallen back into something don’t get stuck in
that Loop like might as well not even try because I’m just gonna keep falling
back into it you have to choose you know is that your choice is that
really what you want if it is by all means you know go ahead
keep doing it but it’s gonna cost you everything in your relationship with the Lord
so that’s the choice that you’re making um who okay we just need to have a say
law right there because you know it it’s it’s important
in so just as an aside pretending that Jesse’s not even sitting here that is
the truth in love that is the reality of the situation and that is why it’s so
important to be to be sincere and we know that you are you you guys wouldn’t even be here if you weren’t sincere in
your walk but it is important to receive that kind of admonition and an
exhortation from a leader in the body of Christ who can help to get you up and
out of that pit or wherever you are stuck so that is an important moment
some of you need to actually back up and listen to her say that a second time or
a third time because that is the truth in love here is the decision that you’re making it is your choice you have free
will so what is it going to be I’m just like that just has to be captured that
is powerful okay and the costs you know count the cost because
you know our relationship with the Lord is so precious and so valuable
and so many times you know going back to Genesis
even Esau you know why was there such a fight between Esau and Jacob
it wasn’t because Jacob stole or deceived anything like that really what
was at the core of that was that Esau had been given the full inheritance of
his father that inheritance included the spiritual relationship with God
and instead of continuing to walk in that relationship Esau sold it for a
bowl of Stew lentil stew he gave it all up for for a bowl of lentil stool stew
from Jacob you know so when you think about that like I mean he sold out his
relationship with God for lentil stew you know so how many
ridiculous things do we you know give away our
relationship with God for I was guilty you know I’ve talked about when the Lord showed me my vice of
coffee how I was giving up you know cheapening that relationship with God
for it for a stupid cup of coffee you know instead of looking to him to be my
comfort my strength my you know my my go-to the the solid balance that I
needed for my mood is you know I faced all these different you know attacks or
arrows or challenges trials Temptations every day you know I was turning to a
cup of coffee that had no voice had no power and no means to earnestly
help me in any way um could not even respond
to my need you know I was accepting something that was false
and rejecting the true relationship you know the one who who did have an ear
to ear though here the one who wanted to hear my voice and the one who desired to
respond to help me and to meet that need and I outright would was rejecting it
over a stupid little cup of coffee so how many things do we do that for
and then deeper do we do that in our relationships that were to be intimate
with do we do we withhold and reject
and turn away from those who really are there to be our support to help us
through things so looking at those things you know what
are the reproaches that need to be rolled away and I encourage you to build
accountability groups you know or build accountability if you’re married
your spouse should be your accountability partner then you should also have you know if
you’re a man have a Few Good Men Who should be your accountability Partners uh if your wife a few good women who are
your accountability Partners if you’re single you know you should have people
like-minded in the faith um you know same sex who are your
accountability Partners people who know every intimate detail of your life who
are there you know with Express purpose of of investing in in you and the health of your faith
and the health of your physical life and the health of your spiritual life
um so surround yourself with those good and godly counselors and don’t be afraid to
share those struggles you know you should have people that you can freely
talk to who you know are gonna hold you accountable and be like okay smack you
know you’re giving up those wandering eyes you’re giving up that pornography
if I need to ground you from your computer or take it away that’s what’s gonna happen buddy next you know so you
choose um you know if you can’t control yourself then we’re gonna intervene
we’re gonna do something to help you be accountable for that that you know we
should be investing in helping others through
those struggles not judging or saying oh I can’t have a you know connection with
you now because um you know you’re engaged in sin are we
you know coming alongside of people helping them through that process you
know I personally believe that’s that is what the Lord has called me to
do is help people walk through and bring them to that place of
restoration in their relationship with God um I think that that’s what
true love is that if you love people you’re going to walk through the
trenches with them you’re going to help them get out of those trenches and you
know it’s funny talking about the trenches I actually used to use that analogy when I was talking to Children
about Sin um when I did the five-day Bible clubs you know I would ask them if they if
they knew what Sid was and I would talk about how it means that we’ve done you know
something wrong we’ve committed offense and I said you know it’s kind of like if you go out and you play in the mud and
you get that mud all over you you know you can’t just go walk in your
mom’s clean house after that you know you you got to go through the
hose and be sprayed off right but if you leave that mud on like if you
just keep going out and playing that mud starts to dry and it starts to you know
get really sticky and it starts to make it hard for you to move like you’re
designed to and that’s how sin Works in our life like it doesn’t go away
just because we decide not to go stand in the hose you know there’s only one way to get rid
of it you have to be washed clean and that’s the same way with sin we can’t
just get rid of it by ignoring it pretending that it’s not there because it’s gonna stay there and it’s
gonna keep getting harder it’s going to keep building up and it’s going to make it harder and harder for you to do the
things God desires you to do and everywhere you go you know every couch
you sit on every car seat you get into
that traces of that mud is gonna be there until you decide to wash it off
and people are going to start to notice I mean you know I’m just gonna put it
out there people will notice your sin because no matter how hard we try
things will come up you know we can only hide it for so long before it starts blatantly becoming that
stench that people like oh I don’t want that you know
so it’s gonna start affecting those relationships and one of the most powerful stories I ever
heard was by Dimitri dudaman he was a pastor in Romania
who later was exiled into the United States from his country because of the
communism and because he was bringing Bibles um to the residents there in Russia and
um he talked about a situation where
um someone had come to him and I believe his wife was ill and it was deathly ill
um and he asked Dimitri to pray for her and Dimitri
said word to with the man that yes he was praying for her and I believe he sent even like a handkerchief for
healing and stuff like that but before he sent the man he gave a
word and he said the Lord says that your wife
has a sin that she has refused to confess and that sin was causing the
illness and the Lord basically gave her the option that if she confessed the sin
she would be healed if she refused to confess the sin to her husband she would not be healed
and I think he even was aware somehow I think he was aware of what the
sin was or the Lord had shown him what it was but basically
um the woman had been unfaithful at one point in her marriage and then had an
affair she had ended up turning away from the fair but she had never
confessed it to her husband and and I guess had never you know
whatever that was that there was something there the Lord said was still unconfessed now the sad thing was was
that the woman chose not to confess that to her husband and the Lord did take her
home she did not get healed from her cancer so you know when we’re dealing with that
reproach um you know sometimes the Lord’s gonna tell
us that there’s others who were affected by that sin or that reproach and he
wants us to go to them he want you know his word says that we’re to go in
private and we’re you know to confess that to them and I think it’s in Ephesians where it
says confess your sins to one another so that you may be healed so there’s this
concept of if we confess our sins to one another that’s really where the healing
is going to come sometimes it won’t be directly to that individual sometimes the Lord will have
us confess to those who hold us accountable other times he’ll have us confessed just
to him but we have to be led by the Holy Spirit and we have to be
obedient to you know what he’s telling us to do
in that situation sometimes our confession might have more
um you know more to do than we could even imagine I know one time
the Lord you know and it was just a little sin like I didn’t you know I it wasn’t even like purposeful it was
something that I just found myself falling into and it was like why did I
do that you know like I don’t even know why I said that and so the Lord had told
me to go back and tell the person and at first it was like okay but it was just like it wouldn’t even technically
technically it might be an offense or a sin like they didn’t know I was able to
correct like I went back I corrected it right but the Lord kept putting it on my
heart that I needed to go to the person and and explain what had happened
and so after I got through the wrestling and I finally just went and explained
it was really interesting because what happened was that that person also had
done something very similar and the Lord was wanting them to confess and repent
but they were refusing so like my situation ended up being that thing
where the Lord convicted them further of I need to confess my thing too yes if I
had confessed you know if I hadn’t been obedient in that confession
then they wouldn’t have been either so it’s interesting how you know our sin
and sometimes even the repentance from our sin can have a major impact on others as
well so um the third thing in this we’re going
to look at as we’re doing this assessment is look at the wall of protection around
your home scripture is very clear about what that wall is it says the name of the Lord is
a strong tower the righteous run into it and they are saved
so where it where is Jesus in our home
does he have an open place is he honored um do we have an active relationship
with him as a family unit you know if not where are the breaches
in that wall who’s giving the breaches to that wall who’s causing the wall to have those
holes by not being in that right relationship with the Lord
um you know identify who that is and begin to pray for that Restoration in
the relationship between that individual and the Lord the same with the gates
um you know as Nehemiah looked at it said the gates were burned down John 10 tells us that Jesus is that gate
so again you know is there a lack of Salvation or Assurance of
salvation um and we’re again going to look at that
relationship that we have with Christ and this one
also with the gates it deals with surrender um
because in John 10 when it talks about Jesus being the gate the gate leads to
the Sheep pens and that’s where the Lord gathers us
each night into his presence and he brings healing
um he you know sees what wounds we have that need tending to he feeds
um you know he tends he Waters so are we
allowing the Lord to have that time to tend to our needs
and where is that often in your home is there somebody who has needs or wants
that they’re not allowing the Lord to tend to um you know what are those needs and wants
that need the tending that’s kind of what we’re looking at now as we go further this passage
starting with verse 5. um Nehemiah has this beautiful petition
that he writes and really this petition is a petition for restoring obedience
and he kind of breaks it down it or I’ll say it’s broken down into six parts
so I’ll kind of read as I go over each part here the first part is praise
so starting at verse 5 Nehemiah says I beseech You O Lord God Of Heaven the
great and awesome God who preserves the Covenant of loving kindness for those
who love him and keep his commands so when we’re writing petitions to the
Lord and I want to simplify this for people um up until this year I really had no
official process um I didn’t have any formats that I went
by I simply you know would go before the throne and
hand my petition to the Lord Lord I want this person to be healed thank you I
know you’re going to do it you know maybe I used a little bit more words than that but generally you know
short sweet and simple for over 40 years God has honored that
you know there’s not many petitions that I brought before him that were not answered
but in this you know God’s teaching us to govern that there you know our
The Authority that he’s given us our positions you know this is a real job this is a
real calling a real appointment and what do we want to invest in it you
know do we want to just because we have that you know that deep relationship as
a child of God with our heavenly father do we want to just take advantage of
that and say here it is Lord I know you’re going to do it or do we really want to take time to
honor in that relationship that’s really what learning to write these petitions
you know that’s the purpose we’re learning is because it’s a way that we honor the Lord
um and really give him the glory and the respect that are due him so you know
either way you can do either way but I encourage you to begin to learn to
invest in some of those deeper ways of honoring out of respect
so we see it you know the first part is you’re gonna bring your petition you’re
gonna praise the Lord in the second part we beseech uh which beseeching is means that we’re
pleading for his ear or asking for his ear his attentiveness and that he would
turn his face towards us give us his full attention as we’re speaking
so Nehemiah says let your ear now be attentive and your eyes
or and your ears open to hear the prayer of your servant which I am praying
before you day and night on behalf of the sons of Israel your servants
confessing the sins of the sons of Israel so that third part is that we’re going
to begin confession um I kind of as I was going through this
petition um I was going back to the altars that we’ve been working on this week so I I
give an example here of what a confession in a petition would look like
so I wrote Lord I confess the priests sexual Saints and foreign marriages I
confess the prostitution the sexual immorality and fornification
the perverseness the unfaithfulness the adultery and the pornography that has
been brought into your house think about that as we are learning to
govern his house his word says that our bodies are his Temple but also the church is his Temple
and we have brought these sexual sins these altars into his house
so put forgive us Lord we repent
um we have sinned against you we and our forefathers have sinned we have acted
croply against you and we have not kept your Commandments your statues or your
ordinances which you commanded to Moses and the priests before us
that we were to have no foreign marriages in our relationships so
forgive us Lord now in Nehemiah 8 he goes to the next or
let me uh go back there just a little bit with that confession we also have the
fourth step which is repentance excuse me
um with that repentance again remember you have a choice
um by all means you can continue in your unfaithfulness
um you can continue in your sin but it’s going to come at that cost of
the relationship with the Lord that you truly desire or you can return to the Lord which
means you’re going to give up you’re going to forsake those sins and turn away
so the fifth part is that we remind the Lord of his word in the distress
in the matters of the distress so with this part it might mean that you
have to look up some verses around you know whatever that distress is
so Nehemiah says remember the word which you commanded your servant Moses saying
if you are Unfaithful I will scatter you among the people but if you return to me and keep my
Commandments and do them though those of you who have been scattered were in the uttermost parts of
the heavens I will gather from there and I will bring them to the place where I
have chosen because of my name to dwell these are they are your servants and
your people who you Redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand so
with this calling God to remember Nehemiah is also interceding
for the people on behalf of the distresses
so good that’s that’s powerful right there right and so as we go back
um you know to our assessment model that we talked over as you begin to identify
those distresses that are going on in your homework or your community begin to
write out petitions asking the Lord for relief from those distresses and how does that
relief come it comes through our confession and our repentance
um the last part of this petition is that we make our requests known
so you know one of nehemiah’s requests is that
um the Lord would redeem by his strong hand and by his great power his people
a second one is he says I beseech you may your ear be attentive to the prayer
of your servant and the prayer of your servants who Delight to Revere in your
name and make your servant successful today he’s asking for his own personal success
and Grant him compassion before the king he was planning to approach the king to
ask for permissions to begin rebuilding the wall so he asked for success and he asked for
compassion that the king will grant him what he needs to begin rebuilding the
wall and what a great you know think a note to end off with you know as we’re
talking about this tearing down and rebuilding we want to rebuild
you know things that represent the kingdom of God as we tear down and we’re
asking the Lord for that permission to rebuild you know Lord look at the
distresses in my home you know this house has not been
operating as you desire it to operate Lord there are reproaches there are sins
there are things that we have done Lord against you and because of that our
house is in disarray but Lord we’re Desiring to put it back into that right
place with you so we’re asking for permission
we’re asking that you will give us your ear that you will be attentive to our
requests that allow us to rebuild our hope so that it is in a place where it brings
honor and glory to your name and that’s really our goal and that’s
the prayer that we’ll end off with today Lord restore our homes as we as we walk
in obedience restore that obedience in our homes and they are homes they are
relationships they are bodies be temples that bring glory and praise to your name
may they be a place where your glory dwells in its fullness as in Isaiah 6 where Isaiah says
you know I saw the Lord seated upon his throne high and it exalted and lifted up
and the train of his robe filled the temple with glory and the whole earth
Cried Out holy so we thank you for that in Jesus name
amen amen

on over there to make sure that you get your tickets and especially for those who need to purchase this
2:33
um the first set of courses so that if you’re coming to part two you understand what is going on because it does build
2:40
foundationally um so any other announcements that you can think of just that’s it yeah
2:47
good deal um well this is pretty exciting part five of this 40 day fast and today it is
2:58
um restoration of obedience so excited for that how can how can we
3:05
how can we get it how can we be yielded all of that yes I mean it’s so important and so as
3:12
we’ve been going through this 40 day fast you know the Lord keeps showing that we’re kind of going through this
3:18
cycle of of tearing down things that should not be in our lives and building up the things that should
3:26
and so obedience is is finally important to some of the other things that we’ve
3:32
already started putting into place uh such as the delighting in the Lord and um
3:39
the honoring in the relationship obedience really is kind of that Firm
3:44
Foundation that’s going to keep uh those two things going
3:50
um without that obedience with you know the delight and the honoring are not
3:55
going to continue and obedience also kind of takes us to that deeper place with the Lord because
4:02
as we spend more time with him as we Delight in him and honor that
4:07
relationship he’s going to be speaking to us he’s going to be you know bearing his heart to us
4:14
and in that he desires a response from us
4:19
and is that response going to be doing what we desire
4:25
or is it going to be obeying even if that obedience is a little bit more
4:31
difficult so today our resources scripture as we said
4:37
and we’re going to be in Nehemiah chapter 1. now I love this passage and this really
4:45
when you look in depth at this chapter this really is about uh nehemiah’s
4:51
petition for the rebuilding of the Temple and as we continue this 40 day fast you
4:59
know we’re not just looking at what are the you know what is the sexual Purity
5:05
in our lives before the Lord this is really about the fact that we were purchased by the precious blood of Jesus
5:13
to be a kingdom of priests and as that Kingdom of priests you know
5:20
what does it say in Zechariah 3 the Lord says if you will walk in my ways then
5:27
you shall govern my house and you shall govern my courts you shall have charge
5:32
of my house in charge of my courts so this is about you know our Authority
5:39
our position in the kingdom of God not once we get to heaven but here now on
5:45
Earth that’s right right here right now and so you know we want to learn to be
5:51
very faithful stewards of this and what’s interesting is we start off
5:57
this passage as we see that Nehemiah got a report about the people’s
6:02
condition now this was not a good report and Tracy
6:07
do you have your scriptures open to Nehemiah chapter one all right would
6:13
you mind reading um I think it’s one of those first verses where it says nehemiah’s asked
6:21
for a report and it says starts with the remnant there
6:26
laughs um is that I think I think it’s verse
6:32
verse three in a different translation they said to me those who survived the
6:38
Exile and Are Back In The Province are in great trouble and disgrace
6:44
the wall of Jerusalem is broken down and its Gates have been burned with fire
6:51
when I say oh I’m sorry do you want me to keep going or no we’ll just we’ll
6:56
just do that for now okay very good so there’s four things that he notes
7:02
um that came in that report one the people were greatly distressed
7:08
um what was the word that your passage used in great trouble in great trouble yeah
7:16
they were disgraced or reproached meaning that you know
7:21
that there’s kind of a concept of being rejected um you know some humiliation going on
7:29
and reproach also can mean attack that you know they’re getting attacked and
7:35
mocked because of um their situation of distress
7:40
and yet what else do we learn that you know not only are the people in distress
7:45
but the wall That’s meant to protect them is is broken down
7:51
um and isn’t you know able to provide the protection that they need and the
7:57
gates were burned so there isn’t a way for them to close those City Gates lock them and protect themselves from those
8:04
who are attacking them so really they have no protection
8:09
they’re under assault from outside sources and there’s not much that they
8:14
can do about that and so you know it’s interesting in
8:20
Isaiah 9 verses 11 through 12 the Lord makes a promise to Israel
8:26
and he promises them a wall of protection while they’re rebuilding
8:31
so in verse 4 going back to Nehemiah 1 when Nehemiah hears this he sat down he
8:39
wept he mourned for days he fasted and he prayed before the god of Heaven
8:46
so as we’re looking at this you know I love that this chapter just so easily
8:52
breaks down some of the next things that we need to do in this fast
8:57
um as we’re continuing to do this fast you know we started with
9:04
um you know really learning to identify what are the sexual sins in our lives
9:11
um or the or the sins that the Lord wanted to deal with I know there were
9:17
some that you know as we looked at the word of unfaithfulness that maybe it didn’t deal with their sexual sin but
9:23
you know we talked about how spending all your time your energy your effort at work
9:30
instead of making time for the Lord that is the same thing you’re you’re being unfaithful with something outside of the
9:37
Lord so we looked at those different things that you know in those areas
9:43
um were there any areas of prostitution any areas of sexual immorality
9:50
fornification or sorry fornication or perverseness
9:56
um were there any areas of unfaithfulness adultery or pornography
10:02
so this week what we’re going to focus on in prayer is we’re going to look at five different
10:10
areas um I’m sorry actually Four first you know we’re going to assess
10:17
what are the distresses in our home you know who are the other people in our
10:23
home if you’re by yourself though that’s nice you just have one person to assess
10:29
or you could even if the Lord is telling you to do this for your community
10:35
because we want to do both our home and our community go ahead and start assessing asking the Lord to show you
10:43
the people around you what are the distresses
10:49
um you know so we look at that um you can go back to those alter things
10:56
uh with the sexual sins and say okay Lord are any of these connected to the
11:03
distresses going on in my home um you know one of the biggest easiest
11:09
ones is to look at what’s being watched on the TV
11:15
there was a season in time where you know my family we we even had um
11:21
others from our church um you know who were very engaged with
11:27
anime and it can be innocent it can be fun you know to watch and uh you know thoroughly
11:35
enjoyable but then there’s some where you know really they’re not appropriate
11:42
and you know I began to notice that some of those some of the anime even if there
11:48
wasn’t anything per se bad in them um that there were just some that seemed
11:55
to leave our home in a a place of disarray after where you know my children would be fighting each other
12:02
more uh they would seem to be a little bit more aggressive the spirit of
12:07
offense um you know was prominent in the home after those shows and um
12:15
so I begin to just you know whenever I would see that outbreak of fighting or
12:21
division or strife I would say Okay Lord show me show me you know what were we
12:27
just doing before this that all of a sudden now this is breaking out in the
12:32
home and if your kids you know were by themselves or separate or even your
12:39
spouse um ask them if they come out and they’re mad and they’re wanting to fight and
12:44
they’re kind of aggressive what were you just doing before this you know were you watching anything were you
12:51
listening to any certain type of music start to take note of those things
12:58
um you know there may be spiritual attachments to it so that’s what we’re looking for
13:03
our you know Behavior Trigger or behaviors being triggered
13:09
and then trying to figure out what had the spiritual attachment before that
13:14
that’s kind of set everything off in the home okay the second thing is you know what are
13:22
the reproaches the disgraces um you know this a lot of times in our
13:30
relationships we tend to bring up the things of our past like we
13:36
just can’t let go of all of those past sins you know
13:42
we we forgive ourselves we accept God’s forgiveness but then as we’re building
13:49
relationships or um you know talking to people those things tend to come back up you know
13:56
sometimes it’s very innocent it’s even just in a memory where you’re like oh my gosh remember when this or you know it
14:04
could be a song that comes on where you say something that really is a cut
14:10
or mean or criticism towards somebody else or maybe once
14:16
again they’re you know acting in a way that that reminds you of a way they’ve
14:21
acted in the past and you just are very blunt about well there you go again
14:27
you know there it is again um you know so you want to start looking
14:33
for those reproaches those disgraces you know what was Israel’s report reproach
14:40
was that because of their unfaithfulness to God because of their idolatry and
14:46
their serving um you know idols and sacrificing it Alters
14:52
the Lord allowed Babylon to overtake them and they went into
14:58
captivity so you know we’re looking for what are
15:04
those reproaches we know in Joshua 3 I you know I love that chapter and it it
15:11
leads into you know as Israel was brought to that place of of the new
15:18
land and the Lord’s Crossing them over um you know as you get to chapter six in
15:25
Joshua the first place that they come to is a city called gilgal and there the
15:31
Lord gives the command that all the men are to circumcise themselves and guess
15:37
what gilgal means I don’t remember
15:43
it means to roll the reproach away that’s right that’s right so you know it
15:50
doesn’t hurt us to to make a list to name the things that are being brought
15:55
up by the Lord you know Lord what are the reproaches in my home
16:00
what are the things that you need to roll away um from us
16:07
and you know again go back to that initial list that we’ve been working
16:13
through is there anything that the Lord considers prostitution or immorality
16:21
fornication or perversion unfaithfulness adultery or pornography
16:29
um don’t get stuck in the loop if you find something or or if you’ve Fallen back into something don’t get stuck in
16:36
that Loop like might as well not even try because I’m just gonna keep falling
16:42
back into it you have to choose you know is that your choice is that
16:49
really what you want if it is by all means you know go ahead
16:57
keep doing it but it’s gonna cost you everything in your relationship with the Lord
17:03
so that’s the choice that you’re making um who okay we just need to have a say
17:10
law right there because you know it it’s it’s important
17:16
in so just as an aside pretending that Jesse’s not even sitting here that is
17:22
the truth in love that is the reality of the situation and that is why it’s so
17:29
important to be to be sincere and we know that you are you you guys wouldn’t even be here if you weren’t sincere in
17:36
your walk but it is important to receive that kind of admonition and an
17:42
exhortation from a leader in the body of Christ who can help to get you up and
17:48
out of that pit or wherever you are stuck so that is an important moment
17:53
some of you need to actually back up and listen to her say that a second time or
17:58
a third time because that is the truth in love here is the decision that you’re making it is your choice you have free
18:07
will so what is it going to be I’m just like that just has to be captured that
18:12
is powerful okay and the costs you know count the cost because
18:18
you know our relationship with the Lord is so precious and so valuable
18:24
and so many times you know going back to Genesis
18:29
even Esau you know why was there such a fight between Esau and Jacob
18:35
it wasn’t because Jacob stole or deceived anything like that really what
18:42
was at the core of that was that Esau had been given the full inheritance of
18:48
his father that inheritance included the spiritual relationship with God
18:55
and instead of continuing to walk in that relationship Esau sold it for a
19:02
bowl of Stew lentil stew he gave it all up for for a bowl of lentil stool stew
19:10
from Jacob you know so when you think about that like I mean he sold out his
19:18
relationship with God for lentil stew you know so how many
19:23
ridiculous things do we you know give away our
19:29
relationship with God for I was guilty you know I’ve talked about when the Lord showed me my vice of
19:35
coffee how I was giving up you know cheapening that relationship with God
19:41
for it for a stupid cup of coffee you know instead of looking to him to be my
19:48
comfort my strength my you know my my go-to the the solid balance that I
19:55
needed for my mood is you know I faced all these different you know attacks or
20:01
arrows or challenges trials Temptations every day you know I was turning to a
20:08
cup of coffee that had no voice had no power and no means to earnestly
20:15
help me in any way um could not even respond
20:20
to my need you know I was accepting something that was false
20:25
and rejecting the true relationship you know the one who who did have an ear
20:33
to ear though here the one who wanted to hear my voice and the one who desired to
20:39
respond to help me and to meet that need and I outright would was rejecting it
20:45
over a stupid little cup of coffee so how many things do we do that for
20:51
and then deeper do we do that in our relationships that were to be intimate
20:57
with do we do we withhold and reject
21:03
and turn away from those who really are there to be our support to help us
21:09
through things so looking at those things you know what
21:16
are the reproaches that need to be rolled away and I encourage you to build
21:23
accountability groups you know or build accountability if you’re married
21:30
your spouse should be your accountability partner then you should also have you know if
21:38
you’re a man have a Few Good Men Who should be your accountability Partners uh if your wife a few good women who are
21:46
your accountability Partners if you’re single you know you should have people
21:52
like-minded in the faith um you know same sex who are your
21:58
accountability Partners people who know every intimate detail of your life who
22:04
are there you know with Express purpose of of investing in in you and the health of your faith
22:13
and the health of your physical life and the health of your spiritual life
22:18
um so surround yourself with those good and godly counselors and don’t be afraid to
22:26
share those struggles you know you should have people that you can freely
22:31
talk to who you know are gonna hold you accountable and be like okay smack you
22:38
know you’re giving up those wandering eyes you’re giving up that pornography
22:43
if I need to ground you from your computer or take it away that’s what’s gonna happen buddy next you know so you
22:49
choose um you know if you can’t control yourself then we’re gonna intervene
22:55
we’re gonna do something to help you be accountable for that that you know we
23:00
should be investing in helping others through
23:06
those struggles not judging or saying oh I can’t have a you know connection with
23:12
you now because um you know you’re engaged in sin are we
23:17
you know coming alongside of people helping them through that process you
23:23
know I personally believe that’s that is what the Lord has called me to
23:29
do is help people walk through and bring them to that place of
23:34
restoration in their relationship with God um I think that that’s what
23:40
true love is that if you love people you’re going to walk through the
23:45
trenches with them you’re going to help them get out of those trenches and you
23:50
know it’s funny talking about the trenches I actually used to use that analogy when I was talking to Children
23:58
about Sin um when I did the five-day Bible clubs you know I would ask them if they if
24:05
they knew what Sid was and I would talk about how it means that we’ve done you know
24:13
something wrong we’ve committed offense and I said you know it’s kind of like if you go out and you play in the mud and
24:19
you get that mud all over you you know you can’t just go walk in your
24:25
mom’s clean house after that you know you you got to go through the
24:30
hose and be sprayed off right but if you leave that mud on like if you
24:35
just keep going out and playing that mud starts to dry and it starts to you know
24:42
get really sticky and it starts to make it hard for you to move like you’re
24:49
designed to and that’s how sin Works in our life like it doesn’t go away
24:58
just because we decide not to go stand in the hose you know there’s only one way to get rid
25:05
of it you have to be washed clean and that’s the same way with sin we can’t
25:10
just get rid of it by ignoring it pretending that it’s not there because it’s gonna stay there and it’s
25:18
gonna keep getting harder it’s going to keep building up and it’s going to make it harder and harder for you to do the
25:26
things God desires you to do and everywhere you go you know every couch
25:32
you sit on every car seat you get into
25:37
that traces of that mud is gonna be there until you decide to wash it off
25:44
and people are going to start to notice I mean you know I’m just gonna put it
25:50
out there people will notice your sin because no matter how hard we try
25:56
things will come up you know we can only hide it for so long before it starts blatantly becoming that
26:03
stench that people like oh I don’t want that you know
26:09
so it’s gonna start affecting those relationships and one of the most powerful stories I ever
26:16
heard was by Dimitri dudaman he was a pastor in Romania
26:24
who later was exiled into the United States from his country because of the
26:30
communism and because he was bringing Bibles um to the residents there in Russia and
26:38
um he talked about a situation where
26:43
um someone had come to him and I believe his wife was ill and it was deathly ill
26:52
um and he asked Dimitri to pray for her and Dimitri
26:58
said word to with the man that yes he was praying for her and I believe he sent even like a handkerchief for
27:06
healing and stuff like that but before he sent the man he gave a
27:11
word and he said the Lord says that your wife
27:16
has a sin that she has refused to confess and that sin was causing the
27:23
illness and the Lord basically gave her the option that if she confessed the sin
27:32
she would be healed if she refused to confess the sin to her husband she would not be healed
27:39
and I think he even was aware somehow I think he was aware of what the
27:46
sin was or the Lord had shown him what it was but basically
27:52
um the woman had been unfaithful at one point in her marriage and then had an
27:58
affair she had ended up turning away from the fair but she had never
28:03
confessed it to her husband and and I guess had never you know
28:10
whatever that was that there was something there the Lord said was still unconfessed now the sad thing was was
28:17
that the woman chose not to confess that to her husband and the Lord did take her
28:24
home she did not get healed from her cancer so you know when we’re dealing with that
28:31
reproach um you know sometimes the Lord’s gonna tell
28:39
us that there’s others who were affected by that sin or that reproach and he
28:44
wants us to go to them he want you know his word says that we’re to go in
28:50
private and we’re you know to confess that to them and I think it’s in Ephesians where it
28:58
says confess your sins to one another so that you may be healed so there’s this
29:04
concept of if we confess our sins to one another that’s really where the healing
29:10
is going to come sometimes it won’t be directly to that individual sometimes the Lord will have
29:16
us confess to those who hold us accountable other times he’ll have us confessed just
29:22
to him but we have to be led by the Holy Spirit and we have to be
29:28
obedient to you know what he’s telling us to do
29:33
in that situation sometimes our confession might have more
29:39
um you know more to do than we could even imagine I know one time
29:46
the Lord you know and it was just a little sin like I didn’t you know I it wasn’t even like purposeful it was
29:53
something that I just found myself falling into and it was like why did I
29:59
do that you know like I don’t even know why I said that and so the Lord had told
30:05
me to go back and tell the person and at first it was like okay but it was just like it wouldn’t even technically
30:13
technically it might be an offense or a sin like they didn’t know I was able to
30:19
correct like I went back I corrected it right but the Lord kept putting it on my
30:25
heart that I needed to go to the person and and explain what had happened
30:30
and so after I got through the wrestling and I finally just went and explained
30:37
it was really interesting because what happened was that that person also had
30:42
done something very similar and the Lord was wanting them to confess and repent
30:48
but they were refusing so like my situation ended up being that thing
30:55
where the Lord convicted them further of I need to confess my thing too yes if I
31:04
had confessed you know if I hadn’t been obedient in that confession
31:09
then they wouldn’t have been either so it’s interesting how you know our sin
31:16
and sometimes even the repentance from our sin can have a major impact on others as
31:24
well so um the third thing in this we’re going
31:29
to look at as we’re doing this assessment is look at the wall of protection around
31:34
your home scripture is very clear about what that wall is it says the name of the Lord is
31:41
a strong tower the righteous run into it and they are saved
31:47
so where it where is Jesus in our home
31:54
does he have an open place is he honored um do we have an active relationship
32:01
with him as a family unit you know if not where are the breaches
32:08
in that wall who’s giving the breaches to that wall who’s causing the wall to have those
32:16
holes by not being in that right relationship with the Lord
32:22
um you know identify who that is and begin to pray for that Restoration in
32:28
the relationship between that individual and the Lord the same with the gates
32:34
um you know as Nehemiah looked at it said the gates were burned down John 10 tells us that Jesus is that gate
32:42
so again you know is there a lack of Salvation or Assurance of
32:50
salvation um and we’re again going to look at that
32:55
relationship that we have with Christ and this one
33:00
also with the gates it deals with surrender um
33:06
because in John 10 when it talks about Jesus being the gate the gate leads to
33:14
the Sheep pens and that’s where the Lord gathers us
33:19
each night into his presence and he brings healing
33:25
um he you know sees what wounds we have that need tending to he feeds
33:32
um you know he tends he Waters so are we
33:37
allowing the Lord to have that time to tend to our needs
33:44
and where is that often in your home is there somebody who has needs or wants
33:50
that they’re not allowing the Lord to tend to um you know what are those needs and wants
33:57
that need the tending that’s kind of what we’re looking at now as we go further this passage
34:04
starting with verse 5. um Nehemiah has this beautiful petition
34:11
that he writes and really this petition is a petition for restoring obedience
34:19
and he kind of breaks it down it or I’ll say it’s broken down into six parts
34:27
so I’ll kind of read as I go over each part here the first part is praise
34:34
so starting at verse 5 Nehemiah says I beseech You O Lord God Of Heaven the
34:41
great and awesome God who preserves the Covenant of loving kindness for those
34:47
who love him and keep his commands so when we’re writing petitions to the
34:54
Lord and I want to simplify this for people um up until this year I really had no
35:03
official process um I didn’t have any formats that I went
35:08
by I simply you know would go before the throne and
35:14
hand my petition to the Lord Lord I want this person to be healed thank you I
35:19
know you’re going to do it you know maybe I used a little bit more words than that but generally you know
35:26
short sweet and simple for over 40 years God has honored that
35:34
you know there’s not many petitions that I brought before him that were not answered
35:40
but in this you know God’s teaching us to govern that there you know our
35:47
The Authority that he’s given us our positions you know this is a real job this is a
35:55
real calling a real appointment and what do we want to invest in it you
36:01
know do we want to just because we have that you know that deep relationship as
36:07
a child of God with our heavenly father do we want to just take advantage of
36:14
that and say here it is Lord I know you’re going to do it or do we really want to take time to
36:21
honor in that relationship that’s really what learning to write these petitions
36:28
you know that’s the purpose we’re learning is because it’s a way that we honor the Lord
36:35
um and really give him the glory and the respect that are due him so you know
36:41
either way you can do either way but I encourage you to begin to learn to
36:49
invest in some of those deeper ways of honoring out of respect
36:55
so we see it you know the first part is you’re gonna bring your petition you’re
37:01
gonna praise the Lord in the second part we beseech uh which beseeching is means that we’re
37:09
pleading for his ear or asking for his ear his attentiveness and that he would
37:15
turn his face towards us give us his full attention as we’re speaking
37:21
so Nehemiah says let your ear now be attentive and your eyes
37:26
or and your ears open to hear the prayer of your servant which I am praying
37:31
before you day and night on behalf of the sons of Israel your servants
37:37
confessing the sins of the sons of Israel so that third part is that we’re going
37:44
to begin confession um I kind of as I was going through this
37:50
petition um I was going back to the altars that we’ve been working on this week so I I
37:58
give an example here of what a confession in a petition would look like
38:04
so I wrote Lord I confess the priests sexual Saints and foreign marriages I
38:10
confess the prostitution the sexual immorality and fornification
38:15
the perverseness the unfaithfulness the adultery and the pornography that has
38:21
been brought into your house think about that as we are learning to
38:28
govern his house his word says that our bodies are his Temple but also the church is his Temple
38:37
and we have brought these sexual sins these altars into his house
38:44
so put forgive us Lord we repent
38:49
um we have sinned against you we and our forefathers have sinned we have acted
38:55
croply against you and we have not kept your Commandments your statues or your
39:01
ordinances which you commanded to Moses and the priests before us
39:07
that we were to have no foreign marriages in our relationships so
39:12
forgive us Lord now in Nehemiah 8 he goes to the next or
39:18
let me uh go back there just a little bit with that confession we also have the
39:24
fourth step which is repentance excuse me
39:29
um with that repentance again remember you have a choice
39:36
um by all means you can continue in your unfaithfulness
39:42
um you can continue in your sin but it’s going to come at that cost of
39:48
the relationship with the Lord that you truly desire or you can return to the Lord which
39:54
means you’re going to give up you’re going to forsake those sins and turn away
40:01
so the fifth part is that we remind the Lord of his word in the distress
40:07
in the matters of the distress so with this part it might mean that you
40:12
have to look up some verses around you know whatever that distress is
40:19
so Nehemiah says remember the word which you commanded your servant Moses saying
40:26
if you are Unfaithful I will scatter you among the people but if you return to me and keep my
40:34
Commandments and do them though those of you who have been scattered were in the uttermost parts of
40:40
the heavens I will gather from there and I will bring them to the place where I
40:45
have chosen because of my name to dwell these are they are your servants and
40:52
your people who you Redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand so
40:59
with this calling God to remember Nehemiah is also interceding
41:05
for the people on behalf of the distresses
41:11
so good that’s that’s powerful right there right and so as we go back
41:19
um you know to our assessment model that we talked over as you begin to identify
41:27
those distresses that are going on in your homework or your community begin to
41:33
write out petitions asking the Lord for relief from those distresses and how does that
41:41
relief come it comes through our confession and our repentance
41:46
um the last part of this petition is that we make our requests known
41:53
so you know one of nehemiah’s requests is that
41:59
um the Lord would redeem by his strong hand and by his great power his people
42:07
a second one is he says I beseech you may your ear be attentive to the prayer
42:13
of your servant and the prayer of your servants who Delight to Revere in your
42:19
name and make your servant successful today he’s asking for his own personal success
42:26
and Grant him compassion before the king he was planning to approach the king to
42:35
ask for permissions to begin rebuilding the wall so he asked for success and he asked for
42:41
compassion that the king will grant him what he needs to begin rebuilding the
42:47
wall and what a great you know think a note to end off with you know as we’re
42:54
talking about this tearing down and rebuilding we want to rebuild
42:59
you know things that represent the kingdom of God as we tear down and we’re
43:06
asking the Lord for that permission to rebuild you know Lord look at the
43:11
distresses in my home you know this house has not been
43:16
operating as you desire it to operate Lord there are reproaches there are sins
43:22
there are things that we have done Lord against you and because of that our
43:27
house is in disarray but Lord we’re Desiring to put it back into that right
43:33
place with you so we’re asking for permission
43:40
we’re asking that you will give us your ear that you will be attentive to our
43:46
requests that allow us to rebuild our hope so that it is in a place where it brings
43:54
honor and glory to your name and that’s really our goal and that’s
44:00
the prayer that we’ll end off with today Lord restore our homes as we as we walk
44:07
in obedience restore that obedience in our homes and they are homes they are
44:15
relationships they are bodies be temples that bring glory and praise to your name
44:23
may they be a place where your glory dwells in its fullness as in Isaiah 6 where Isaiah says
44:31
you know I saw the Lord seated upon his throne high and it exalted and lifted up
44:38
and the train of his robe filled the temple with glory and the whole earth
44:46
Cried Out holy so we thank you for that in Jesus name
44:54
amen amen
