welcome back Kingdom Living Community to rise up it’s the Wednesday equipping
show and as you all know we’ve got the Sunday show riding the storms we are learning to overcome and use biblical
application to stay victorious in the Lord and handle all the challenges that life tries to throw at you and uh
tonight this is super exciting before we get going the topic of tonight’s show is
a form of godliness but denying the holy spirit’s power and if you’ve hung around
for any length of time around Jesse then you know that this is one of those areas
that she definitely goes after which is amazing and this is where we all need to be is looking at this topic in
particular because that’s the issue in general with the body of Christ today but keep your eyes peeled on Kingdom
living with jesse.com because the new courses for Rise of the righteous are available
and also we are high highlighting Jesse’s book his kingdom comes in power
the battle so you’re gonna want to get that in your tool belt and read through
you’re going to see such practical application you’re going to see miraculous things happening I love that
book that was just an amazing book and it made it made me when I read through
it it made me feel like oh I can do this like I can do like God is God is working
with you doing things and he can work with me doing things because he’s no
respecter person so if he can do it for Jesse Z he can do it for me too you know
so that’s how I solve it okay
oh my goodness yes yes so we’ll have that in the description box below for
all of you and then also all of the merchandise is also in the description box we don’t mention it too frequently
and but probably we should but but the teaching is what’s most important the
gospel is what’s most important and that’s what Jesse wants you all to have however just know that there are other
links like if you want to give that’s what the links are and if you want to get your the bigger fish to fry then the
Antichrist hoodies that’s where you find them so just go make sure that you’re checking those links okay I don’t say
that enough so anyway okay cover that for a long time so well today we’re
What is Perfectionism
gonna start you know like we’re gonna look at in scripture you know and start defining
like what are some things that kind of stick out about you know that form of
godliness and you know what really is behind it is
perfectionism so as I was reading some of these verses this week like they kind of stuck out in
my mind like oh my gosh like that’s an aspect of perfectionism yet it’s really
not a good thing like so you know as I started looking at that it was like okay Lord like I’m seeing you know that form
of godliness very strongly and how do we then teach people to walk
in the Lord’s way so what was great about these verses was that it gives you kind of that definition the two things
that you’re looking for so um let’s start with psalm 144.
um I want to look that up and I’m going to look that one up in the passion
translation very good okay let me see I messed with a seven I’m still making my
way over there
oh I guess I got NIV instead okay so Psalm 4 144 is there which verse am I
heading to uh verse four verse 4. man is like vanity and a breath his days
are as a shadow that passes away okay Psalm 140 verse 4 keep me O Lord
from the hands of the wicked preserve me from the violent men who have purposed
to thrust aside my steps oof yes so that you know that’s a really
good verse to look at um you know that you’ve got this contrast
of you know Wicked and violent men but the part that caught my attention
was you know the second part of that verse where it says God
um they have plotted evil schemes against me and you know when we think about that
you know what happens with that form of godliness um you know what I experienced a lot as
a child with that especially with those religious Spirits is that literally like they plot they
plot things that are you know that are wicked schemes against you uh
whether it’s it’s catching you in what you say catching you and what you do so
they can point out you know your imperfections uh point out where you fall short
um that is applauding an evil scheme like there you know when
I thought about that it’s like what is God’s way God’s way is that if we’re in
sin or we’re doing something wrong that you know the Holy Spirit or someone
else you know maybe it’s you know a parent a spouse brings it to our attention and says hey
um you know this is off you this is wrong this is not the way God wants you
to be doing that so they point it out in a gentle way and then you know you’re
given that time for confession and repentance where you turn away from that
sin but in that form of godliness there isn’t that you know that’s not the end
goal is to get you into a place of confession they want to get you into a place where you’re condemned you you’re
guilty they put shame on you and really there’s just that continual drive that
you know you’re not enough and you never get to that place of right restoration
so that was the first one that the Lord showed me in this
um let’s go to the next one if you want to look up Proverbs 28 verse 26.
he who leans on trusts in and is confident of his own mind and heart is a
self-confident fool but He Who Walks In skillful and godly wisdom shall be
delivered oh what like so you can that one you can clearly see the contrast so what do we
The Form of Godliness
have you know in that form of godliness what are the characteristics
oh yes leaning on their own understanding of things and not put not
putting that to the Lord um and just having that I see that a lot with with that religious spirit of
there’s there’s that self-confidence in just spitting out the word but it’s kind
of like um like the wrong kind of slap like it’s kind of like a very a very
condemning slap like how dare you very looking down the nose with the glasses yeah because we’re so spiritual like
what is your problem you don’t know what the word of God says and it’s like you know
okay so what was the contrast then what’s the way that the Lord would have us to walk
the contrast is that we would be walking in the in Godly wisdom that we would
walk in his wisdom and because we’re walking in his wisdom then we’re
delivered from the situation yeah that’s powerful especially when you
think about you know the holy spirit that you know it says that the spirit of
God is a spirit of wisdom counsel understanding knowledge you know fear of
the Lord so you know it’s implying that when
you’re walking with the Holy Spirit you’ll be delivered out of the situations that you’re in
because you’re you know you’ve got the power of God standing with you all right let’s look at Proverbs
29 25. 29.25 the fear of man brings a snare but
whoever leans on trusts it and puts his confidence in the Lord is safe and set
on high these are great verses Jesse oh my goodness aren’t they all right so okay
so what is the form of godliness what do they walk in they’re walking in the fear of man
and that’s bringing a snare to them what do other people think
and it actually says it’s a snare like that means it’s a trap you’re gonna get
caught up in it you’re not gonna be able to get out yeah it’s like that’s that’s that’s
that’s no good but you see it happen all the time um but those who put their confidence in
the Lord they’re safe and they’re set on high so
if there’s some nasty um swampy whatever going on down there
like those ones that are leading in reliable War to get plunked up on high
so dookie free areas for beautiful so I think of two like some other words
Fear of Men
like you know that fear of men um scripture also uses a term called the
wisdom of men um you know so when we think about that you know maybe it’s the Specialists it’s
the professionals it’s you know those who are well trained in things and I’m not saying that everybody who you know
would apply that to their title or their job or their position is bad or or not
of God that’s not what I’m saying at all but what I’m saying is sometimes instead of even seeking the Lord or asking the
Lord for counsel we’d automatically you know have been trained to turn to those
things you know what do the professionals say what did the Specialists say in this area what do I
need to do and we use them like an oracle almost to get directions and then
we expect that if we follow those directions things are going to turn out well for us
but maybe they won’t because what does Scripture say you know the fear of men is a snare
and you know those who get caught in it are caught in a trap and you know what does God want he wants
us to trust in him that he will keep us safe that he will deliver us in our time
of trouble that he will answer our prayers and provide what we need so
that’s where the the Catch-22 is is um
you know you know when you’re pay attention to your thoughts like you know
what do you turn to what’s your first go-to is it to call everybody
you know in your list your prayer list your prayer warriors
it is so true like we turn we will tell the situation to everybody under the sun
and we still haven’t even talked to God about it and we will you know I mean it’s not
saying that seeking a lot of counsel is is bad it’s good you know we’re supposed
to seek a lot of counsel but is that all we turn to do we just turn to men and
never you know look it up spend time in the word about it wrestling with it with
the Lord asking what should we do wow
on point so in that
um you know was that that’s the one I was trying to see which verse it was
um uh one of the ones that talked about oh this next one okay so read Proverbs 28
- 28 18 He Who Walks uprightly shall be
safe but he who willfully goes in double and wrong ways shall fall in one of them
that’s pretty sure that’s really clear
Form of godliness
yeah so what’s the you know the the form of godliness what does it say
about that that if you’re going in willfully in double
in wrong ways you’re gonna fall in one of the one of those options one of those
pits if you’re if you’re if you’re gonna lead with wrong ways you’re gonna fall into your own pit and um but those that walk yeah so let’s
really you know go there like what you know it doesn’t exactly use the words you know form of godliness but when we
think about that perfectionism really we are going in double ways you
know we’re looking towards the specialists even if it’s you know let’s say it’s seminarians or Scholars or what
do all the other pastors say we’re looking at that you know that
they’re the standard and if we you know basically it’s a double standard because we’re not
trusting in the Lord we’re looking at other things we’re fearing men more than
we fear the lord and what does it say will happen what what’s the outcome of that I’ve fallen right into it you’re
gonna fall right into it into that trap
at the enemy sets for you and there you’re gonna sit
in that trap um that verse also uses another word in
another version [Music] um it’s that
Blameless
it’s the word blameless he whose walk is blameless
and that really is a powerful word and you know especially when we’re thinking of that form of godliness and
perfectionism uh blameless is so much different than
perfectionism um with perfectionism you know it’s
almost like we we put on this mask this posture this
form that we take and that’s what we display to the world even though
in reality it may not be true you know the truth is is that none of us are
perfect the truth is that no matter how hard we try we’re going to make mistakes we’re gonna mess up you know we’re gonna
fall short we’re gonna foul it up you know we’re gonna hurt people we’re gonna
hurt the Lord and you know the solution is easy and that’s confession
but here’s where the difference is is that imperfectionism um instead of just acknowledging and
being who you are that hey I’m human I made a mistake I need to confess I need
to repent and I need to be restored in that right relationship with God instead
of doing that um your go-to is is works to be better to to do more you know if
only I did it differently and there’s in that there’s no acknowledgment of
the failure you know you in your pride it’s like you
literally do not believe that you have done anything wrong and you just keep
plowing forward and you know how many times have I seen that
where people won’t even you know they hurt people and what they do and instead of saying you know what
I was wrong uh you know I’m sorry I hurt you instead of Simply doing that you know
even if it’s you sinned against somebody let’s say you were mean you yelled you lashed out as my you know kids say you
know sometimes people just are like ornery Bears you know and and they’re
rude to one another and instead of saying you know what I’m sorry that that was rude of me and it was wrong for me
to talk to you that way instead of admitting that they they don’t
you know they treat the other person like they that they were the person in the wrong you know
how many of us have had that happen where you know these individuals will say things to us like well you know if
you were better if you you know had paid attention if you had done this or done
that that wouldn’t have happened and they put the blame in the fault even if
the fault was not yours or the responsibility was not yours
so you know that perfectionism is different but
here’s what else I want to bring out about blameless this blameless really is kind of like a legal term
you know if you have blame that means there is an accusation there’s something
against you but to be blameless means that literally it’s been wiped away
it’s no longer there you you’re not held that whatever it was isn’t held over
your head which means that there’s been a restoration that you know when God looks
at you after you’ve confessed your sins he doesn’t say oh there she is you know
she used to prostitute herself out all over the the country you know the Lord
doesn’t look at that the Lord says wow there she is you know beautiful perfect and I’m preparing that
one for an amazing marriage and she’s going to know love and she’s gonna love
you know within that marriage as I’ve prepared you know or there you know he doesn’t
say oh there’s that druggie that alcoholic you know
the Lord doesn’t see that anymore he doesn’t Define Us by our past sins he
looks at you know our hearts and you know simply says here’s the good
works that I have for you you’re my son you’re my daughter um I’ve you know I love being in this
relationship that’s what the Lord says he loves to be in relationship with us
you know with perfectionism when you hang on to that you you cannot hang on to it and fully
know blameless you have to give it up to know what it
is to experience to feel what it feels like to be blameless
before the Lord so I encourage you lay it down
all right here’s another one um or I wanted to bring it to you that perfectionism so again it’s based on
those who say they have no sin they you know it’s based and rooted in
the belief that they have no sin they’ve done no wrong
um whereas blameless is quick to repent and turn from sin
um all right let’s read John 5 18 and as we
get to these next ones I want to look at what is the Lord
say about us and where does our security come from
John 5 18. this made the Jews
more determined than ever to kill him because not only was
okay let me start that over because I just completely my eyes skip this made the Jews more determined than ever to
kill him because not only was he breaking the Sabbath but he actually was
speaking of God as being his own father making himself equal with God
so the the relationship the being one with God and again that’s not saying
we’re God but we are connected to Jesus who is one with God
uh let’s look at John 17 12.
while I was with them I kept and preserved them in your name
those you have given me I guarded and protected and not one of them has
perished or is lost except the Son of Perdition Judas Iscariot the one who is
now doomed to destruction destined to be lost that the scripture might be
fulfilled yeah powerful and again when we’re thinking of this you know we’re thinking
Relationship with God
of that that relationship with the fullness of of God that you have the
father you have the son and you have the Holy Spirit and
you know how do we relate to God what is his ideal is that we would be one and
what does that look like you know what does it really look like to be one with him one heart one Mind
One Soul you know and together we’re one body in Christ
um let’s look at Proverbs 18 verse 10.
the name of the Lord is a strong tower the righteous man runs into it and is
saved high above evil and strong
yeah and that’s where you know the power is in his name it’s it’s all his works
Power of the Holy Spirit
that he has done uh that you know that he’s laid down his
life he’s purchased us with his blood to be a kingdom of priests he’s raised us up you know as we
have died with Christ we’ve been raised to New Life That’s What Romans 6 says
um so in that you know there’s that concept of of death to self
that As We Lay Down everything that’s of that form of
godliness you know we stop um devising ways to trip others up
we stop trusting in ourselves we stop having a fear of men you know and
falling into a snare in a trap we stop walking
um in ways that are prefers to God which includes you know the thought that we have no sin
um and when we stop those things and we put them to death
we’re raised into that place of new life where we’re in that right relationship
with God um we’re in that state of righteousness meaning that you know we confess we
repent we teach others to walk in his ways
you know which teaching is different than you know judgment it’s different than you’re not sitting there pointing
out every sin um you know ask the Lord if you don’t know how to teach another person how to
walk in his ways ask the Lord to show you how to do that
um you know it includes that cleansing process it includes being vulnerable
and in that you know there’s something that really we don’t
often do I’ve seen it done once or twice um but you know really when kind of
what’s been going through the mainstream churches is you know is very
individualistic versus um being Collective and in that you know
process of of restoration we really have gotten very individualistic where you know I
pray I you know I’m restored to that right place with God good now I go fellowship with the body
but in that in doing that when we keep it to ourselves we miss out and others
miss out as well because you know what I found is that we’re really lacking in public
restoration and in that we lack humbleness you know not many people display that
humbleness before one another where you know they’re willing to say hey I’ve messed up I’ve done wrong
and you know some of the first things that I saw with that you know was a couple elderly men
that were in our church they had done or said some things to one another that had
caused her and you know they could have just gone to each other they could have just gone
Public Restoration
before the Lord but instead they chose to make it public where they went before
the body of Christ and you know the one who had or well both of them kind of had said
things that hurt each other and they said you know we said these things to each other and
and we you know we hurt one another we did it in front of other people we did
it in front of kids and now we want to you know publicly acknowledge that we
were wrong that we should not have treated each other that way and they walked through that restoration
they forgave each other and what a you know amazing example that was of
restoration and um you know I would encourage people
I know I’ve I do have people who will reach out to me who at times will
confess things um what do we do if somebody confesses stuff to us
um I you know I think because of that example I saw as a kid
to me it’s something that’s very precious like if somebody comes to me and they confess something I
try to pause I try to take a moment to just like you know let it sink in
and then you know meaningfully receive that confession
and you know acknowledge that you know saying I
I hear you I appreciate that you have confided that I received that confession
before the Lord and I bear witness that you have confessed that and that you’re
turning away from that sin and and that’s really powerful to hear is somebody you know who’s standing with
you saying I bear witness to that confession that you’ve made and you know
if others accuse you of that again or accuse you of wrongdoing I can say no
you know that has been confessed and you know we bear witness we bear
testimony of that so you know taking that time to you know
extend that vulnerability with each other um
you know can be very powerful and humbling
um and when I was thinking about that it led me and I gotta look up where it is
real quick um but there’s a verse that God brought to my mind with that
um just one second here is it on the confession like
to confess your sins one to another so you maybe yeah but yeah that’s one uh
the James 5 16 is another one where you know through that confession it brings
healing um but this one is
Romans 2 4. where it says um but the kindness of God the kindness
Conclusion
of God leads to repentance amen and you know really what’s behind you know that
power of the holy spirit is you know the heart of God that that he’s kind he’s he
really loves us he really intends for everything to be for our good
and in our relationships you know where is our mindset our you
know is our Focus really for the good of others or are we trying
to you know trip them up trying to do something that you know brings them down
are we trying to you know make them go in a way that maybe seems right but maybe it’s not
what God has called them to are we discouraging them are we
overwhelming them in that perfectionism where you know with our children we’re we’re expecting
performance all the time you know you have to be the best it has to be perfect do it again do it again until you know
practice makes perfect right um so are we overwhelming
our relationships um with that perfectionism
or are we really walking out you know that kindness of God with a
demonstration of the holy spirit’s power you know
wow I’m thinking so many thoughts even looking back at my own life and
relationships and circumstances and just different different behaviors just based
on how situations were handled if it was handled like that very in a very critical way versus you know a loving
way and um and how that really does bring about the transformation
um whereas you know the the condemnation that can come from from things is just
such a detriment it’s like it blocks um a person from really receiving the
restoration that they need and the healing that they need and oh my goodness and just destroys fellowship if
it’s not present you know so yeah wow very important stuff
very good so in that you know this week
um let’s continue to work to be in prayer about our relationships about you
know with god with one another and you know I just want to take a moment to
focus on that last verse the Romans 2 4 that we looked at and to just kind of
pray that through in our after this discussion we’ve had so
Heavenly Father we just thank you for your word we thank you for the examples that you lay out for us that you show us
um the ways that we have been walking in that that don’t bring you pleasure that really
um are that form of perfectionism and and our sinful Lord
um it does not give you pleasure it does not lead to good things or Abundant Life when we walk in that
and Lord our desire is to do your will so help us to see where we’re wrong help
us to lay down and to put to death those things that are not of you
and Lord we want to walk in that new life that you’ve given us we want to walk in a way that is pleasing to you we
want to teach our children our grandchildren the children in our community how to walk in your ways
um with that Lord we acknowledge that it may come with having to be humble it may
come with having to Bear our sins before others or our confessions but Lord give
us willing Hearts let us not think about only ourselves or doing things for our
good or or just to get through everything that we do let it be for the
building up of your body for the building up of one another and for the
spurring of one another on in this race so that they may not just finish the race but
that each of us may finish that race with eternal glory Lord
let us strive to help one another finish that race with eternal glory we
ask for this in your powerful name Jesus amen amen amen

What is Perfectionism
2:45
gonna start you know like we’re gonna look at in scripture you know and start defining
2:52
like what are some things that kind of stick out about you know that form of
2:57
godliness and you know what really is behind it is
3:03
perfectionism so as I was reading some of these verses this week like they kind of stuck out in
3:09
my mind like oh my gosh like that’s an aspect of perfectionism yet it’s really
3:15
not a good thing like so you know as I started looking at that it was like okay Lord like I’m seeing you know that form
3:23
of godliness very strongly and how do we then teach people to walk
3:29
in the Lord’s way so what was great about these verses was that it gives you kind of that definition the two things
3:36
that you’re looking for so um let’s start with psalm 144.
3:46
um I want to look that up and I’m going to look that one up in the passion
3:51
translation very good okay let me see I messed with a seven I’m still making my
3:57
way over there
4:02
oh I guess I got NIV instead okay so Psalm 4 144 is there which verse am I
4:10
heading to uh verse four verse 4. man is like vanity and a breath his days
4:18
are as a shadow that passes away okay Psalm 140 verse 4 keep me O Lord
4:27
from the hands of the wicked preserve me from the violent men who have purposed
4:33
to thrust aside my steps oof yes so that you know that’s a really
4:42
good verse to look at um you know that you’ve got this contrast
4:49
of you know Wicked and violent men but the part that caught my attention
4:56
was you know the second part of that verse where it says God
5:01
um they have plotted evil schemes against me and you know when we think about that
5:09
you know what happens with that form of godliness um you know what I experienced a lot as
5:17
a child with that especially with those religious Spirits is that literally like they plot they
5:25
plot things that are you know that are wicked schemes against you uh
5:31
whether it’s it’s catching you in what you say catching you and what you do so
5:37
they can point out you know your imperfections uh point out where you fall short
5:43
um that is applauding an evil scheme like there you know when
5:50
I thought about that it’s like what is God’s way God’s way is that if we’re in
5:56
sin or we’re doing something wrong that you know the Holy Spirit or someone
6:01
else you know maybe it’s you know a parent a spouse brings it to our attention and says hey
6:08
um you know this is off you this is wrong this is not the way God wants you
6:13
to be doing that so they point it out in a gentle way and then you know you’re
6:21
given that time for confession and repentance where you turn away from that
6:27
sin but in that form of godliness there isn’t that you know that’s not the end
6:32

6:38
guilty they put shame on you and really there’s just that continual drive that
6:45
you know you’re not enough and you never get to that place of right restoration
6:52
so that was the first one that the Lord showed me in this
6:58
um let’s go to the next one if you want to look up Proverbs 28 verse 26.
7:11
he who leans on trusts in and is confident of his own mind and heart is a
7:18
self-confident fool but He Who Walks In skillful and godly wisdom shall be
7:25
delivered oh what like so you can that one you can clearly see the contrast so what do we
The Form of Godliness
7:32
have you know in that form of godliness what are the characteristics
7:37
oh yes leaning on their own understanding of things and not put not
7:43
putting that to the Lord um and just having that I see that a lot with with that religious spirit of
7:51
there’s there’s that self-confidence in just spitting out the word but it’s kind
7:57
of like um like the wrong kind of slap like it’s kind of like a very a very
8:04
condemning slap like how dare you very looking down the nose with the glasses yeah because we’re so spiritual like
8:13
what is your problem you don’t know what the word of God says and it’s like you know
8:22
okay so what was the contrast then what’s the way that the Lord would have us to walk
8:28
the contrast is that we would be walking in the in Godly wisdom that we would
8:34
walk in his wisdom and because we’re walking in his wisdom then we’re
8:40
delivered from the situation yeah that’s powerful especially when you
8:46
think about you know the holy spirit that you know it says that the spirit of
8:51
God is a spirit of wisdom counsel understanding knowledge you know fear of
8:57
the Lord so you know it’s implying that when
9:02
you’re walking with the Holy Spirit you’ll be delivered out of the situations that you’re in
9:09
because you’re you know you’ve got the power of God standing with you all right let’s look at Proverbs
9:17
29 25. 29.25 the fear of man brings a snare but
9:25
whoever leans on trusts it and puts his confidence in the Lord is safe and set
9:31
on high these are great verses Jesse oh my goodness aren’t they all right so okay
9:39
so what is the form of godliness what do they walk in they’re walking in the fear of man
9:47
and that’s bringing a snare to them what do other people think
9:53
and it actually says it’s a snare like that means it’s a trap you’re gonna get
9:58
caught up in it you’re not gonna be able to get out yeah it’s like that’s that’s that’s
10:04
that’s no good but you see it happen all the time um but those who put their confidence in
10:12
the Lord they’re safe and they’re set on high so
10:18
if there’s some nasty um swampy whatever going on down there
10:23
like those ones that are leading in reliable War to get plunked up on high
10:28
so dookie free areas for beautiful so I think of two like some other words
Fear of Men
10:36
like you know that fear of men um scripture also uses a term called the
10:42
wisdom of men um you know so when we think about that you know maybe it’s the Specialists it’s
10:49
the professionals it’s you know those who are well trained in things and I’m not saying that everybody who you know
10:57
would apply that to their title or their job or their position is bad or or not
11:02
of God that’s not what I’m saying at all but what I’m saying is sometimes instead of even seeking the Lord or asking the
11:10
Lord for counsel we’d automatically you know have been trained to turn to those
11:17
things you know what do the professionals say what did the Specialists say in this area what do I
11:23
need to do and we use them like an oracle almost to get directions and then
11:30
we expect that if we follow those directions things are going to turn out well for us
11:36
but maybe they won’t because what does Scripture say you know the fear of men is a snare
11:43
and you know those who get caught in it are caught in a trap and you know what does God want he wants
11:51
us to trust in him that he will keep us safe that he will deliver us in our time
11:56
of trouble that he will answer our prayers and provide what we need so
12:02
that’s where the the Catch-22 is is um
12:07
you know you know when you’re pay attention to your thoughts like you know
12:14
what do you turn to what’s your first go-to is it to call everybody
12:20
you know in your list your prayer list your prayer warriors
12:28
it is so true like we turn we will tell the situation to everybody under the sun
12:35
and we still haven’t even talked to God about it and we will you know I mean it’s not
12:41
saying that seeking a lot of counsel is is bad it’s good you know we’re supposed
12:46
to seek a lot of counsel but is that all we turn to do we just turn to men and
12:52
never you know look it up spend time in the word about it wrestling with it with
12:57
the Lord asking what should we do wow
13:03
on point so in that
13:09
um you know was that that’s the one I was trying to see which verse it was
13:16
um uh one of the ones that talked about oh this next one okay so read Proverbs 28
13:23
28 18 He Who Walks uprightly shall be
13:30
safe but he who willfully goes in double and wrong ways shall fall in one of them
13:37
that’s pretty sure that’s really clear
Form of godliness
13:42
yeah so what’s the you know the the form of godliness what does it say
13:49
about that that if you’re going in willfully in double
13:54
in wrong ways you’re gonna fall in one of the one of those options one of those
14:01
pits if you’re if you’re if you’re gonna lead with wrong ways you’re gonna fall into your own pit and um but those that walk yeah so let’s
14:09
really you know go there like what you know it doesn’t exactly use the words you know form of godliness but when we
14:17
think about that perfectionism really we are going in double ways you
14:22
know we’re looking towards the specialists even if it’s you know let’s say it’s seminarians or Scholars or what
14:31
do all the other pastors say we’re looking at that you know that
14:37
they’re the standard and if we you know basically it’s a double standard because we’re not
14:44
trusting in the Lord we’re looking at other things we’re fearing men more than
14:50
we fear the lord and what does it say will happen what what’s the outcome of that I’ve fallen right into it you’re
14:58
gonna fall right into it into that trap
15:04
at the enemy sets for you and there you’re gonna sit
15:09
in that trap um that verse also uses another word in
15:14
another version [Music] um it’s that
Blameless
15:20
it’s the word blameless he whose walk is blameless
15:25
and that really is a powerful word and you know especially when we’re thinking of that form of godliness and
15:32
perfectionism uh blameless is so much different than
15:37
perfectionism um with perfectionism you know it’s
15:42
almost like we we put on this mask this posture this
15:49
form that we take and that’s what we display to the world even though
15:55
in reality it may not be true you know the truth is is that none of us are
16:02
perfect the truth is that no matter how hard we try we’re going to make mistakes we’re gonna mess up you know we’re gonna
16:10
fall short we’re gonna foul it up you know we’re gonna hurt people we’re gonna
16:16
hurt the Lord and you know the solution is easy and that’s confession
16:22
but here’s where the difference is is that imperfectionism um instead of just acknowledging and
16:30
being who you are that hey I’m human I made a mistake I need to confess I need
16:36
to repent and I need to be restored in that right relationship with God instead
16:44
of doing that um your go-to is is works to be better to to do more you know if
16:53
only I did it differently and there’s in that there’s no acknowledgment of
16:59
the failure you know you in your pride it’s like you
17:05
literally do not believe that you have done anything wrong and you just keep
17:11
plowing forward and you know how many times have I seen that
17:17
where people won’t even you know they hurt people and what they do and instead of saying you know what
17:25
I was wrong uh you know I’m sorry I hurt you instead of Simply doing that you know
17:32
even if it’s you sinned against somebody let’s say you were mean you yelled you lashed out as my you know kids say you
17:42
know sometimes people just are like ornery Bears you know and and they’re
17:48
rude to one another and instead of saying you know what I’m sorry that that was rude of me and it was wrong for me
17:56
to talk to you that way instead of admitting that they they don’t
18:02
you know they treat the other person like they that they were the person in the wrong you know
18:09
how many of us have had that happen where you know these individuals will say things to us like well you know if
18:17
you were better if you you know had paid attention if you had done this or done
18:24
that that wouldn’t have happened and they put the blame in the fault even if
18:29
the fault was not yours or the responsibility was not yours
18:35
so you know that perfectionism is different but
18:40
here’s what else I want to bring out about blameless this blameless really is kind of like a legal term
18:47
you know if you have blame that means there is an accusation there’s something
18:53
against you but to be blameless means that literally it’s been wiped away
19:00
it’s no longer there you you’re not held that whatever it was isn’t held over
19:05
your head which means that there’s been a restoration that you know when God looks
19:11
at you after you’ve confessed your sins he doesn’t say oh there she is you know
19:17
she used to prostitute herself out all over the the country you know the Lord
19:23
doesn’t look at that the Lord says wow there she is you know beautiful perfect and I’m preparing that
19:32
one for an amazing marriage and she’s going to know love and she’s gonna love
19:37
you know within that marriage as I’ve prepared you know or there you know he doesn’t
19:44
say oh there’s that druggie that alcoholic you know
19:50
the Lord doesn’t see that anymore he doesn’t Define Us by our past sins he
19:55
looks at you know our hearts and you know simply says here’s the good
20:02
works that I have for you you’re my son you’re my daughter um I’ve you know I love being in this
20:09
relationship that’s what the Lord says he loves to be in relationship with us
20:15
you know with perfectionism when you hang on to that you you cannot hang on to it and fully
20:23
know blameless you have to give it up to know what it
20:30
is to experience to feel what it feels like to be blameless
20:36
before the Lord so I encourage you lay it down
20:41
all right here’s another one um or I wanted to bring it to you that perfectionism so again it’s based on
20:49
those who say they have no sin they you know it’s based and rooted in
20:56
the belief that they have no sin they’ve done no wrong
21:01
um whereas blameless is quick to repent and turn from sin
21:07
um all right let’s read John 5 18 and as we
21:14
get to these next ones I want to look at what is the Lord
21:19
say about us and where does our security come from
21:26
John 5 18. this made the Jews
21:33
more determined than ever to kill him because not only was
21:39
okay let me start that over because I just completely my eyes skip this made the Jews more determined than ever to
21:45
kill him because not only was he breaking the Sabbath but he actually was
21:52
speaking of God as being his own father making himself equal with God
22:01
so the the relationship the being one with God and again that’s not saying
22:08
we’re God but we are connected to Jesus who is one with God
22:14
uh let’s look at John 17 12.
22:22
while I was with them I kept and preserved them in your name
22:28
those you have given me I guarded and protected and not one of them has
22:34
perished or is lost except the Son of Perdition Judas Iscariot the one who is
22:40
now doomed to destruction destined to be lost that the scripture might be
22:46
fulfilled yeah powerful and again when we’re thinking of this you know we’re thinking
Relationship with God
22:52
of that that relationship with the fullness of of God that you have the
22:58
father you have the son and you have the Holy Spirit and
23:04
you know how do we relate to God what is his ideal is that we would be one and
23:12
what does that look like you know what does it really look like to be one with him one heart one Mind
23:20
One Soul you know and together we’re one body in Christ
23:27
um let’s look at Proverbs 18 verse 10.
23:35
the name of the Lord is a strong tower the righteous man runs into it and is
23:42
saved high above evil and strong
23:47
yeah and that’s where you know the power is in his name it’s it’s all his works
Power of the Holy Spirit
23:52
that he has done uh that you know that he’s laid down his
23:57
life he’s purchased us with his blood to be a kingdom of priests he’s raised us up you know as we
24:06
have died with Christ we’ve been raised to New Life That’s What Romans 6 says
24:12
um so in that you know there’s that concept of of death to self
24:18
that As We Lay Down everything that’s of that form of
24:23
godliness you know we stop um devising ways to trip others up
24:30
we stop trusting in ourselves we stop having a fear of men you know and
24:37
falling into a snare in a trap we stop walking
24:43
um in ways that are prefers to God which includes you know the thought that we have no sin
24:49
um and when we stop those things and we put them to death
24:54
we’re raised into that place of new life where we’re in that right relationship
25:00
with God um we’re in that state of righteousness meaning that you know we confess we
25:08
repent we teach others to walk in his ways
25:13
you know which teaching is different than you know judgment it’s different than you’re not sitting there pointing
25:20
out every sin um you know ask the Lord if you don’t know how to teach another person how to
25:26
walk in his ways ask the Lord to show you how to do that
25:32
um you know it includes that cleansing process it includes being vulnerable
25:39
and in that you know there’s something that really we don’t
25:45
often do I’ve seen it done once or twice um but you know really when kind of
25:53
what’s been going through the mainstream churches is you know is very
25:58
individualistic versus um being Collective and in that you know
26:06
process of of restoration we really have gotten very individualistic where you know I
26:14
pray I you know I’m restored to that right place with God good now I go fellowship with the body
26:20
but in that in doing that when we keep it to ourselves we miss out and others
26:28
miss out as well because you know what I found is that we’re really lacking in public
26:33
restoration and in that we lack humbleness you know not many people display that
26:42
humbleness before one another where you know they’re willing to say hey I’ve messed up I’ve done wrong
26:51
and you know some of the first things that I saw with that you know was a couple elderly men
26:58
that were in our church they had done or said some things to one another that had
27:04
caused her and you know they could have just gone to each other they could have just gone
Public Restoration
27:10
before the Lord but instead they chose to make it public where they went before
27:16
the body of Christ and you know the one who had or well both of them kind of had said
27:22
things that hurt each other and they said you know we said these things to each other and
27:28
and we you know we hurt one another we did it in front of other people we did
27:35
it in front of kids and now we want to you know publicly acknowledge that we
27:41
were wrong that we should not have treated each other that way and they walked through that restoration
27:47
they forgave each other and what a you know amazing example that was of
27:54
restoration and um you know I would encourage people
27:59
I know I’ve I do have people who will reach out to me who at times will
28:05
confess things um what do we do if somebody confesses stuff to us
28:12
um I you know I think because of that example I saw as a kid
28:18
to me it’s something that’s very precious like if somebody comes to me and they confess something I
28:27
try to pause I try to take a moment to just like you know let it sink in
28:35
and then you know meaningfully receive that confession
28:41
and you know acknowledge that you know saying I
28:46
I hear you I appreciate that you have confided that I received that confession
28:54
before the Lord and I bear witness that you have confessed that and that you’re
29:00
turning away from that sin and and that’s really powerful to hear is somebody you know who’s standing with
29:07
you saying I bear witness to that confession that you’ve made and you know
29:14
if others accuse you of that again or accuse you of wrongdoing I can say no
29:19
you know that has been confessed and you know we bear witness we bear
29:25
testimony of that so you know taking that time to you know
29:31
extend that vulnerability with each other um
29:36
you know can be very powerful and humbling
29:42
um and when I was thinking about that it led me and I gotta look up where it is
29:47
real quick um but there’s a verse that God brought to my mind with that
29:54
um just one second here is it on the confession like
30:00
to confess your sins one to another so you maybe yeah but yeah that’s one uh
30:05
the James 5 16 is another one where you know through that confession it brings
30:12
healing um but this one is
30:23
Romans 2 4. where it says um but the kindness of God the kindness
Conclusion
30:31
of God leads to repentance amen and you know really what’s behind you know that
30:40
power of the holy spirit is you know the heart of God that that he’s kind he’s he
30:48
really loves us he really intends for everything to be for our good
30:54
and in our relationships you know where is our mindset our you
31:01
know is our Focus really for the good of others or are we trying
31:09
to you know trip them up trying to do something that you know brings them down
31:15
are we trying to you know make them go in a way that maybe seems right but maybe it’s not
31:23
what God has called them to are we discouraging them are we
31:28
overwhelming them in that perfectionism where you know with our children we’re we’re expecting
31:36
performance all the time you know you have to be the best it has to be perfect do it again do it again until you know
31:43
practice makes perfect right um so are we overwhelming
31:50
our relationships um with that perfectionism
31:56
or are we really walking out you know that kindness of God with a
32:03
demonstration of the holy spirit’s power you know
32:11
wow I’m thinking so many thoughts even looking back at my own life and
32:16
relationships and circumstances and just different different behaviors just based
32:23
on how situations were handled if it was handled like that very in a very critical way versus you know a loving
32:30
way and um and how that really does bring about the transformation
32:37
um whereas you know the the condemnation that can come from from things is just
32:42
such a detriment it’s like it blocks um a person from really receiving the
32:49
restoration that they need and the healing that they need and oh my goodness and just destroys fellowship if
32:55
it’s not present you know so yeah wow very important stuff
33:00
very good so in that you know this week
33:06
um let’s continue to work to be in prayer about our relationships about you
33:12
know with god with one another and you know I just want to take a moment to
33:18
focus on that last verse the Romans 2 4 that we looked at and to just kind of
33:24
pray that through in our after this discussion we’ve had so
33:30
Heavenly Father we just thank you for your word we thank you for the examples that you lay out for us that you show us
33:39
um the ways that we have been walking in that that don’t bring you pleasure that really
33:45
um are that form of perfectionism and and our sinful Lord
33:51
um it does not give you pleasure it does not lead to good things or Abundant Life when we walk in that
33:58
and Lord our desire is to do your will so help us to see where we’re wrong help
34:05
us to lay down and to put to death those things that are not of you
34:11
and Lord we want to walk in that new life that you’ve given us we want to walk in a way that is pleasing to you we
34:19
want to teach our children our grandchildren the children in our community how to walk in your ways
34:26
um with that Lord we acknowledge that it may come with having to be humble it may
34:33
come with having to Bear our sins before others or our confessions but Lord give
34:40
us willing Hearts let us not think about only ourselves or doing things for our
34:46
good or or just to get through everything that we do let it be for the
34:52
building up of your body for the building up of one another and for the
34:57
spurring of one another on in this race so that they may not just finish the race but
35:05
that each of us may finish that race with eternal glory Lord
35:10
let us strive to help one another finish that race with eternal glory we
35:18
ask for this in your powerful name Jesus amen amen amen
35:24
